Unaccompanied Minors

In the towns of Jimani and Fonds-Parisien, located on the Haitian-Dominican border, we encounter the significant challenges faced by children every day. For many of them, the journey involves seeking the most basic of needs that are unmet in Haiti, leading them to cross the border unaccompanied in search of opportunities.

In Jimani, young children leave behind their homes to embark on a challenging path, seeking better prospects in the Dominican Republic. We witness firsthand the poverty, desperation, and exploitation they encounter, making their situation far from comfortable or secure.

On the Haitian side, Fonds-Parisien serves as a connection point for families facing economic hardships. In some cases, families decide to send their children across the border alone, hoping for better prospects. This decision exposes these children to various dangers, including human trafficking and child labor.

Imagine a 12-year-old boy leaving behind everything he knows on whispered promises of what is possible on the other side of the border. He isn’t seeking wealth and fame, but the most basic of needs like food and shelter; and for those that dream bigger, hopes of an education.

This is where we come in. At Three Trees Ministries, we are committed to identifying and addressing the needs of these vulnerable children. With a deep understanding of the situation on the border, we step in to provide immediate shelter and care, offering them a safe haven in the midst of uncertainty. As we engage with these unaccompanied minors on their journey, we recognize the critical need for guidance and protection. They experience physical and emotional hardships and are often deprived of their fundamental rights.

Our dedicated team works tirelessly to meet the urgent needs of these children, ensuring they have access to food, shelter, and basic necessities. We strive to create a nurturing environment where these young ones can find temporary respite from their hardships.

However, our mission goes beyond providing short-term assistance. We are determined to seek permanent solutions for these children. Through partnerships with Child Welfare of the Dominican Republic (CONANI) and Haiti (IBERS), we identify potential long-term options, such as family reunification or placement in our homes in Jimani, DR, or Fonds Parisien, Haiti.

Moreover, we collaborate with local and international organizations to improve child welfare services on the border. We actively engage with Border Patrol (CESFRONT) and other authorities to advocate for the rights of unaccompanied minors and children separated from their families. Through these partnerships, we work towards policy changes and enhancements to social services, addressing the root causes of migration and vulnerability.

Through our commitment to the values of life, family, and righteousness, we strive to instill hope and resilience in these children. We introduce them to the truth of God's love and acceptance, empowering them to find restoration from their past traumas.

As we continue our journey, we remain dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of these vulnerable children. Our impact extends far beyond the immediate shelter and care, as we strive to break the cycle of challenges and create a brighter future for the young souls on the Haitian-Dominican border.
